I'm working on the album of our beach pictures. Hopefully by Monday it'll be up.
So today (Saturday) I went to B.J.'s and picked up some stuff. While I was gone The DH was cutting the grass and trimming hedges, etc. As he was cutting part of the yard a man walked up. The DH stopped cutting the grass and walked over to the man and the man introduced himself as the Home Owner's Association President (or Representative, the guy was mumbling). The guy then proceeded to tell The DH that he needs to keep the grass cut, because of property values, etc... The DH then blew up and said, "Well, my father is in the hospital, terminally ill with a brain tumor, we were just in Florida to see him. If you want to cut my fucking grass be my guest." The guy just turned and walked away.
Now here's the 'HOA' history..Someone approached me and asked if we wanted a HOA and that it would be $25 and it was JUST FOR the front entrance to the subdivision, for a landscaping company to keep the grass cut, flowers planted, etc.. I told them that if it was JUST FOR the front entrance then fine I would be happy to contribute $25 a year. Well then we get a letter saying it'll be $160/yr. Well, of course, hardly anyone paid them $160 just for landscaping. We don't have a pool or tennis courts or even a 'clubhouse' in this neighborhood. What we do have is a park that the city maintains, and not very well. So as I was going through the mail when we got back from FL I notice a letter from the President of the HOA saying that we'll all have to pay $170 for this year then $70/yr after that. Just to maintain the entrance...yeah RIGHT!
My mother lives in a MUCH better neighborhood complete with pool, tennis courts and a clubhouse, they pay $40/yr...if you want to use the pool then you pay $120/yr. Like hell I'll be giving some guy I don't even know $170 of our hard earned dollars, fuck that.
I told The DH that the guy will probably try to talk to me and I'm just going to tell him; "You know, my daddy has a saying...Go to Hell." And then close the door in his face. Fuck them and their poorly organized attempt at a HOA. Fuck them up one side and down the other.
I'm moving to the country I couldn't care less about the property values of these morons, whom, when we were selling our house and it was the best on the block, NO ONE kept their yard up or their houses painted...it looked like the fucking slum. Didn't seem to matter to them back then, now though..we miss one weekend and a week of cutting the grass and they start harassing us about it? Besides, it rained 5-10 inches IN ONE DAY while we were gone, you can't cut a soggy yard. And all the runoff from the road goes through our yard, so it is literally like a swamp. But, The DH cut it. Not to mention DH was CUTTING THE FUCKING GRASS when this guy came up and told him to cut the grass. I told DH he should have just looked around and then asked, "WHAT IN THE FUCK DOES IT LOOK LIKE I'M DOING ASSHOLE?!?!?!"
I hate these people, I really do. I like being anti-social....grrrrrrrr
Ok, I'm off to clean up the house of our moving boxes...Have a great last half of the weekend!!!

Wow.... Our HOA is nothing like that. We do have an entrance (very small one) that has flowers and the medians are mowed but that is all included in your yearly dues. We have a small park and they do holiday events as well as yard of the month all included in your yearly fees. I guess we got lucky.
BUT if you don't keep your house painted and such they talk to you if you still don't do anything they call the city.
We have one guy two streets from us that refuses to paint his house. I mean this house looks awful. The paint is literally hanging there. The city has come out and now he is determined not to paint (he also has chickens in his backyard but they don't know that). I kind of like him because he is just determine to do his own thing although I am very glad his is not on my street.
Ummm, I think I would have totally lost it on that guy. Good for your hubby!!! Was there a vote to establish the HOA?? Because it seems to me that if one didn't exist before, then there would have to be some sort of vote to create one. Also, there should be officers running it who consult with the membership on the fees, right?? It sounds like someone tried to put together some half-ass HOA and are now trying to bully people into paying way too much money. I'm with you--move to the country and tell them to go fuck themselves.
I shate HOA's...they're actually quite useless.
